چکیده
The correct placement of a retrograde nail for fixation in a combined ankle and subtalar arthrodesis especially in the presence of deformity be difficult.2–4 We have previously introduced a 2D imaging-based CAS guided drilling for nail placement.6,7 The 2D imaging-based CAS guided correction positioned the calcaneus in relation to the talus and/or the tibia.6,7 Due to difficulties in planning and potential inaccuracies, we have switched to a 3D imaging-based method for the drillings.6,7 We hypothesize that a 3D imaging-based CAS guided drilling for this purpose is more accurate that the 2D imaging-based CAS guided method because this has previously been shown for CAS guided retrograde drilling in osteochondritis dissecans of the talus.1,9 Another advantage of this method is that the 3D imaging before insertion of the implant allows better assessment of the correction than 2D imaging.6,7 This new method of 3D imaging (ARCADIS)-based CAS guided drilling for nail placement in a combined ankle and subtalar arthrodesis with deformity correction is introduced (model ARCADIS, Siemens Medical Inc., Munich, Germany, and model Navivision, Brainlab Inc., Heimstetten, Germany).

Computer-Assisted Surgery (CAS) in Foot and Ankle Surgery
Foot and ankle surgery at the end of the twentieth century was characterized by the use of sophisticated computerized preoperative and postoperative diagnostic and planning procedures.13,39 However, intraoperative computerized tools that assist surgeons during their struggle for the planned optimal operative result are lacking. This results in an intraoperative “black box” without optimal visua...

The goal in osteochondral defects of the talus in Stages I and II according to Berndt and Harty is revascularization of the lesion.3 A debridement of the chondral part is required if symptomatic.1,24 This debridement is limited to loose cartilage or cartilage with poor quality.1,22,24 Subchondral drillings of the lesion allow a revascularization. Retrograde drillings leave the chondral surface ...

Isolated tibiotalar fusion is the preferred choice for isolated end-stage arthritis, joint destruction after infection, talar avascular necrosis, Charcot neuroarthropathy, and joint replacement failure. Combined tibiotalar and subtalar joint fusion with an intramedullary nail can achieve better alignment and save patients from prolonged non-weightbearing. The purpose of the present study was to...

OBJECTIVE Intraoperative 3-dimensional imaging with the first available device (ISO-C-3D; Siemens, Germany) has shown potential benefit in foot and ankle surgery. The aim of the study was to assess the clinical use of the second-generation device (ARCADIS-3D; Siemens) in comparison with earlier experience with the first-generation device. METHODS In a matched pair study, the ISO-C-3D/ARCADIS-...
